Pretty girl about the same age as Jackie. I compared her version of Million Dreams to Jackie's. Jackie's may be slightly more polished but I found them similar and liked them equally. I agree that there are many many good young singers in the world. So what distinguishes them is songwriting and persona. It would be interesting to see how many of the top rated 12 female singers have written their top hit/hits , i would guess perhaps 3 , i think again it takes a number of things involved and we have no idea about things like signing Contracts giving up a % of profits to persons/Agencies to help make it big . Luck , Time , Place/Country , How , Money , Material , Chance , Desire , Wisdom , Manager , etc , etc , etc , and great Voice is lowest on list , There are millions of very good singers world wide .Lots of big name began with that one BIG tune that started the career . A good test is that if they have never written a song by themselves, they have probably never written a song. I would also be suspicious if they cannot play a musical instrument at even a rudimentary level. I think it is safe to say that among the superstar singers, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Katy Perry, Adele, and Lady Gaga are legit songwriters. Among the younger ones we have mentioned on this thread, I have no doubt Grace Vanderwaal, Emily Bear, and, of course, Eilish again write their own material. There are no doubt other legit songwriters in both groups but these are the names that come to mind.

Well it looks like I called it again awhile back I mentioned Tate McRay as a dancer turned singer that is writing her own songs. She signed with RCA Records a few days ago. All her music videos were shot by herself. RCA produced her first real music video called Tear Myself Apart www.musicconnection.com/singer-songwriter-tate-mcrae-signs-to-rca-records/ Look at the growth she has since she started singing on her youtube channel. At the end of 2017 it starts shooting up. Tate is gaining 3863 youtube subscribers a day.
Grace Vanderwaal is gaining 1033 Connie Talbot is gaining 600
Grace has 3,191,228 youtube subs
Tate has 1,791,761 subs Connie has 1,618,116 subs Must be noted that Tate's daily subscribers will probably start tapering off before she get to the 3 million subscribers Grace has.
But what this does show is that the public is very interested in singers that write their own songs.
Looks like the labels couldn't ignore that type of growth. Be interesting to see how she does with some backing. In 2015 Tate Won Junior Best Dancer of the year at The Dance Awards. In 2018 she recompeted for best dancer of the year again.
Tate was also competed on So You Think You Can Dance.
Tate has the looks she has those long well developed dancer legs. Tate is 5'8" and turned 16 in July so she is just 6 months older than Grace.
Tate has the personality also that is need to succeed as a pop artist.
Tate has the work ethics that would put her competition to shame.
Connie is 18 and 5'1"
Not sure how tall Grace is but it looks like she may be over average height Jackie is also 5'1"

Numbers can also mean little as it all depends on how numbers mean $$$$$$. Miss Swift has on Twitter alone of 85.4 Million followers so how many will buy new album ? , 1 million would be what % , like one in a million . I never heard her sing a complete song but don't think it is her voice that sells . Dancers need to make money in other ways then dancing . A Sterling is rare . Miss Talbot imo looked most delightful in white on latest talent show but one must be out of the box now a days , one must be out of this world not of usual or to be outstandingly to stand OUT from others .

That is because only those in our old folks demographic buy music anymore. Everyone else streams it so they would not buy a TS album or anyone else's album - they pay a fee or endure adverstising to stream whatever they want whenever they want it. The artists gets a cut of the fee and advertising depending on what percentage of the streamed material was theirs. For Spotify, it usually ends up at .4 cents per stream; Apple, Amazon, and other streaming services have similar rates. YouTube (without VEVO) is usually around .15 cents per stream; VEVO through YouTube is .25 cents per stream. A large chunk of the other 84.4 million followers are streaming TS. It's a new world out there; thinking in terms of record sales is as antiquated as thinking in terms of records.

A year ago, Grace was 5'6". My guess is she is now 5'7" or 5'8" and rail thin. In looks, she sort of reminds me of the 60s model Twiggy in her heyday.

But what this does show is that the public is very interested in singers that write their own songs.
Tate has a lot of natural songwriting talent but I think it would be helpful to master an instrument. Not to play on stage - Billie never plays piano and Grace only plays uke onstage for a few of her older songs, but both play well enough to freely write songs. Learning the piano better would give a greater musical range to her songwriting. Right now, a lot of her songs seem almost identical in feel and I think this is due to her having a limited variety of chord progressions in her songwriting arsenal. But her natural ability is considerable.
My guess is that RCA will follow the same route as Interscope did with Billie and Sony/Columbia is doing with Grace. Both Billie and Grace started with younger teen audiences (both were younger teens themselves) and their musical chops were able to win them fans among high school, college, and twenty-something indie audiences. RCA will likely encourage her to develop her songwriting, have her work with some good producer/songwriters to aid in that process, and get an EP out followed by an album. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point they get her in the studio with Grace's buddy Ido Zmishlany - he likes to work with talented young artists and he encourages them to take their music to the next level. She can then do a tour of smaller venues before opening for a more established act that appeals to the indie audience. Maybe by then Imagine Dragons will be touring again. I already see this happening - her knew single sounds more indie pop than teen pop. In fact, it sounds rather much like Billie. These days, that's not a bad thing to mimic.

Here is one that you never see going back to these got talent shows even though she won Sweden's got talent in 2008 the same year Connie Talbot lost to Paul Pots on BGT. The best are not on those champion shows like they want you to believe. She is 21 now and would laugh at their invitations. LOL Jackie's OTTs laughed their butts off at her saying her belting out like that her voice wouldn't last a couple of years.
After she won on Sweden's got talent she basically disappeared off the radar and came to the USA 5 years later to make her move and get a contract.
WOW ! , her face is older looking there at that age , is she 30 ? , , some have it some , don't , she looks and sings like she has GOT it .

Yes that is Zara Larsson they told her in the US basically to comeback in 5 years after the cute factor wears off. She lost the cute factor but she isn't bad to look at which may be a factor in her success today. I believe i said Jackie should have gone away for about 3 years to come back completed with do over from head to foot to Debut NEW Jackie but what do i know , too late now as she will never match new talents , i think some like Jackie , Connie , Zara , others were put on talent shows too early by people behind them in a hurry , this lassie is more then cute now ( O O ) with voice to match .

Just watched Grace Vanderwaal's instagram stories. She jumped down in the audience to talk to them ( probably a very good PR move that nobody would suggest she do because of safety concerns ) But with her tall thin build it was no problem getting back on stage. www.instagram.com/stories/gracevanderwaal/

Between her album, touring, and endorsements, her estimated income this year is somewhere around $175 million. She's not a great singer but is a great songwriter and has charisma to spare. Shows you what really makes a star these days.
