Manafort was cleared of the crimes mueller is charging in this case 8 years ago!
Manafort's lawyer during the case 8 years ago, was rob rosenstein!

Manafort did not say he was exonerated. That is from Napolitano saying that would be Manafort's defense strategy. Napolitano should know that declining to prosecute because the state feels they don't have a solid case is not exoneration. The appearance now is Manafort was told his kids would be hounded, a prosecutorial colonoscopy, if he didn't take a plea deal. The state still doesn't have enough evidence to reasonably expect to convict Manafort in court or they would be delighted to prosecute him.
This arm twisting skulldugery (Nice kids you got there General. Be a shame if they get investigated into the poorhouse like we're doing to you.) is how the feds got a plea deal out of General Kelly. Kelly had to sell his house to pay his defense attorneys. From the circumstances, I deduce Kelly is a straight up patriot General. If he was like most crooked high ranking military types, he'd have had a lucrative consulting position and seats on several boards upon retirement and a get out of trouble card for playing ball throughout his military career. He only had the money an honest general would have.

If you can't do the time, then don't do the crime. |

From what I can find (second hand or hearsay) is that charges made years ago against Mr. Manafort were dropped. He was never tried in court. That may mean that the prosecutors did not have enough evidence against him at the time. After researching, I can find nothing that directly relates to any charges against Paul Manafort years ago. Only the ones he was recently convicted of. Maybe someone else who wants to do some research will have better luck.
