Connie has recently had to move into temporary accommodation with her family due to six years of harassment by a sicko messaging her and causing terrifying encounters at her house.
All her musical equipment has had to be boxed away, and she used to use these daily when keeping in touch with her fans.
It's about time that laws were passed to stop these creepy sicko's from having so much power over people. The police cannot do anything unless he actually does harm. Well it's a bit late then!
Is it the same in America? All the problems that the Evancho's have had too. I'm not sure how the law stands out there.
The UK is becoming a joke. Sicko's like this know they can get away with it. A man who defended himself and his wife from a burglar was arrested for murder as the burglar died. Thankfully the charge was later dropped but the relatives of the dead burglar are now leaving flowers as a shrine to him outside the house of the man he was burgling! Not only that, the police said the flowers can stay. Meanwhile a memorial to a soldier who was hacked to death in the street outside his barracks was torn down by police. There are murmurings of riots over here as criminals get the backing of police more than the victims. People have had enough. Connie and her family should not have had to move house because of some sicko.

That is disturbing news and is something that exists worldwide when it comes to celebrities. John Lennon comes to mind. The long term solution is the development of laws which afford a greater form of security than that which currently exists in the UK. I imagine that some form of restraining order exists but it only works if the "Sicko" is identified. Improving security against the unknown is pretty much impossible for legal solution. Unfortunately, individual celebs are left with developing/improving their own security whether with use of bodyguard(s) or something more simplified such as living in a gated community. It is unfortunate that politicians, celebs and other notables become high risks when undertaking their careers but it goes with the territory.
I sometimes wonder how might the legal system change if a number of high profile lawyers and judges were suddenly to find themselves the targets of "Sicko's". But then again why would a "Sicko" choose a bottom feeder when he knows that the cream rises to the top.

It's about time that laws were passed to stop these creepy sicko's from having so much power over people. The police cannot do anything unless he actually does harm. As Gordy has mentioned, the US has restraining orders which are orders issued by a judge requiring a threatening person (typically a stalker or abusive spouse) to stay a certain distance away from the victim and places frequented by the victim. If the threatening person violates the order, he can be arrested or jailed. Don't they have that in the UK?

Yes we have restraining orders in the UK, but pretty much useless if the perpetrator ignores them and causes injury. People who break these orders are usually fined and can possibly face jail time (yeah right...). It appears that Connie had a number of terrifying visits so a restraining order didn't work, and they had to move out of their home. Connie is still a child, the laws need to be strengthened where children are involved.

One might be able to lock someone up for a LITTLE while if they violate a restraining order but do NOT cause injury; however, it's probably not reasonable to expect to be able to forcibly commit crazies to the loony bin where they belong, unless they have already injured themselves or others. Otherwise, someone could go to the trouble of framing you as a crazy, and having you locked up. Remember, any power you want government to have can be used against you, too. The unfortunate fact is that if someone is really determined to harm you, unless they're totally incompetent, they'll probably succeed. BTW, is there a source for the story? Not obvious to me at first google.

Thanks, Glynis.
This is the tweet:
It seems there is something wrong when laws allow for restraining orders but they are not enforced, which makes the laws useless.

It seems there is something wrong when laws allow for restraining orders but they are not enforced, which makes the laws useless. An unenforced law is nearly as harmful to good order as one enforced without due process. Which argues in favor of not having more laws than can be enforced uniformly and with full due process. Shame that a young performer should have to find out the hard way that the world is full of psychos though; yet better to be aware of difficult realities before it's really too late.

Here in the U.S. it is usually sufficient legal defense regarding lethal force that an intruder is in your home. The defense is based on the idea that career criminals, when caught by surprise often resort to injuring or killing the homeowner or another authorized occupant. The criminal probably wanted an easy job of stealing your property. When an unexpected interruption occurs, malefactors might panic and do anything to avoid (another term usually) prison.

In america one uses a baseball bat or weapon ( Gun ) and if fear of life from a person entering a home with out permission and one fears of harm then one using the weapon .In the UK bobbies did not carry a gun at one time , insanity .
