I've always imagined healthcare as a charitable enterprise. The moment it became a business, those who often needed it the most were left out.
However, I don't know if socialism is the best answer because the people are forced to help others. This is morally repugnant to some of us.
Charity, by definition, is voluntary, and, in its purest form, freely given to those whom we may perceive as our enemies.

I has absolutely nothing to do with socialism, even the most conservative goverments, the most capitalistic, liberal (in its real sense) around the world have it and would never question it. In USA there is a totally wrong understanding of socialism and especially liberalism. The USA are founded on the ideas of liberalism. A real society who really wants to be sucessfull needs this - btw. its far cheaper than the current system in the USA. It‘s not charity. It never has, will never has anything to do with charity.

After watching the second video, my first thought was of the transients and homeless without insurance in the US who get free healthcare. And yet the young man from the US, visiting in Europe, was required to pay 80 euros for his care. Our neighbor's belled cat still gets his bird. The gods are generous.

Very likely he was not registered ..every foreign person who is registered - health care mandatory btw. if he needed a scan, if he had a broken arm everything would be included in this 80€. the transients and homeless -.they need help - if you want you could take their life. The real parasites are the people who have the money, but paying taxes no - vote for Trump - a all the asocial ideasc-.paying for health care - no - and suddenly when they had an accident, have cancer - they cry for help on gofundme. Going to church every Sunday, showing of with their „christianity“ - but acting totally contrary in real life. I could puke. But its not only christianity -a society has more sucess, productivity is higher when there is a system which cares for everyone..free tuition so that many as possible get the best education. It has nothing to do with socialism, charity...a functioning health care system for everyone is in the best interest of a capitalistic society. Less „angst“ - less crime - in the USA taking responsibility for other members of society - NO - a lot of egoism - but egoism is the enemy of real sucess. How much productivity is flushed down the toilet in the USA because people are treating public schools like trash. As every sucessfull company also societies needs investments especially in the future - instead billions of dollars spent for military or for tax cuts - roads, bridges, water pipelines, infrasructure a total mess

Perhaps comparing the healthcare systems of two very different political systems such as the US and Europe is not a good idea. The expression here is that it would be like comparing apples with oranges. In addition, I am not a scholar concerning either system so I will defer to someone with more knowledge about the details of each system. But I can do this, eulenspiegel. I can thank you for your earnest comments, and offer my attitude on this subject: Each country will always struggle to meet the medical needs of its citizens and I will always respect whatever system a country decides to implement. I look forward to reading your contributions to this thread and others on this forum.

Same for the next morning. Perhaps one should talk about health care in the USA 24/7 www.insider.com/half-cancer-patients-lose-their-entire-life-savings-2018-10Wouldn‘t it be nice to live in a country as in many parts of the world where there is no danger of that...one goes to hospital and that‘s it. Even drugs are only 10% in price as in USA..but you have only like to pay 5€ per drug on in own paying having health care... Recently I got very sick...heart insufficency ...ambulance, hospital treatment, heart ultrasound, Cardiac catheterization, again heart ultrasound for check, afterwards 5 weeks with heart ultrasound for check rehab, drugs..mid November heart ultrasound etc. for check again at University hospital again (heart is recovering)l blood tests, blood pressure tests, EKG several times, only paid around 200 € in own costs so far...in USA I would be broke.

Your ignorance about everything of importance is complete. Btw. in January two gallstones were removed with ERCP after check ups and a few days in hospital in December. In my case it had to be done in general anesthetic...with the best doctors this clinic could provide. The also put me one day in intensiv care unit..because of my heart. Extra payment...nada!!! Everything is covered by health insurance. Your budget for defense is higher than 600 billion dollars, plus tax cuts for your richest people...perhaps this money, your taxes, could be spend more wisely
