The problem with Covid19 is ...that it will be catastrophic for everyone..even you...as the health care system will be likely crushed.

I forgot - all the medical staff working daily - for months - without a break - always at risk, exhaution

far more dangerous than in military - and I don‘t think that they thought that many of their fellow citizens would be so egoistic..

What about paying a nurse in ICU 1000 Dollar per hour instead of bigot clapping.

The military are for an entirely different scope of problem than 1% or even 10% of semi-random people getting very sick or dying. The police are actually not all that necessary, if you're willing to treat every more or less sane and competent volunteer as a deputy.

mRNA vaccines like Moderna and Pfizer aren't strictly "gene altering". They trick a part of the body (muscle cells) into producing one particular protein molecule, in the case of COVID-19, the "spike" protein used to gain access to cells it attacks. The effect is NOT permanent (it's not gene-splicing), and it is NOT inheritable. And it's not even a killed or weakened virus, it's a way to get one's own body to produce the least possible part of the virus that one's immune system needs to be stimulated to respond to, to fight of the actual virus.

Such work might in the future even be part of creating a flu vaccine that works across a range of flu mutations, so that a new one isn't needed every year.

Theoretically at least, these have LESS risk of various downsides than any previous type of vaccine; and a LOT of promise for other uses still under study or development, possibly including tricking one's own body to attack cancer cells.

While it's true there's no long-term evaluation on these specific vaccines, the experimental use of mRNA based vaccines has been studied since 1993; and the more basic principle of introducing tailored mRNA to cause cells to produce specific proteins has been studied since 1989. If they were going to make you grow an extra arm or (you know what), or turn into a giant tumor or a zombie, we'd probably have found out by now. :-) Again, since these do perhaps the least possible to achieve the desired effect, the odds should be good that they also have less long-term risk. The one problem with mRNA vaccines is that they're fragile and need to be kept VERY cold in shipment and storage.

The Oxford (AstraZeneca) vaccine is also not made from the COVID-19 virus, although it's NOT based on a technique being used on a large scale for the first time. It's made from an adenovirus that causes the common cold in chimpanzees, and will not even reproduce in humans; the virus has been modified to create the COVID-19 spike proteins. It too is not actually changing one's DNA.

Now maybe for someone in their 40's or below, not at high risk, they might imagine the unknowns of a new vaccine to be a greater risk than COVID-19 itself. They might get lucky on that. But there have been those who had an otherwise mild case of COVID-19 that lost their sense of taste and smell, and possibly had continuing reduced brain function and who knows what else. We don't know how bad that is or how frequent it is; but if we DON'T stop COVID-19, we may find out in a decade with a lot more long term problems caused by the virus itself rather than by any vaccine.
