Alas, he's wrong. US Constitution, Article 3, Section 3, paragraph 1:
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
Note especially the first sentence. What the rebels in the FBI etc did, however bad, did not satisfy that condition.
I don't think insurrection applies, because that usually means an armed rebellion; and that's a law that probably wouldn't hold up well anyway.
If there's specifically a law against attempting a coup via illegal acts, I'm not aware of it. However, presuming those acts are already illegal, and given the circumstances, if the perpetrators (of the illegal acts, probably not the people behind them) were convicted, there's a reasonable chance they'd get the maximum sentence. Throw in conspiracy charges, and it could be even worse. The younger ones might see daylight again, the rest, probably not. Although I wouldn't put it past some future Democrat President to pardon them in his(her) last few days in office.
Forget the level of revenge they deserve, that's just not going to happen. IMO, all leftists that commit any criminal abuse of power are traitors. But that's NOT what the Constitution and the law say, and if we ignore it, we're no better than the evil leftists.

Complete BS, punishing Traitors does NOT make those that demanded it, or that carried out the punishment of them EVIL, and places no hint of wrong doing on them.
EDIT:
There are Traitors, and they did commit Treason, in attempting to kill the sovereign( President Trump) or overthrow the government(and they DID and ARE attempting to overthrow our government).
BTW, giving MURDERS the chair, does not make us MURDERS.

Oh, I am fine with a trial, .. if they come up with the correct verdict AND sentence. Still worrisome. Trials in the USSR were like that, still are in China, North Korea, etc, if they don't just shoot you outright or have you disappear, permanently. The difference is that theirs were just for show, with the outcome decided in advance. So yes, no matter how much evil leftists (globalists, whatever) deserve the most severe sentence, one has to take the risk that a jury won't be convinced, or a crooked judge will stretch some loophole and throw out the jury's verdict, etc. Or one is just exactly the same as the leftists, globalists, or whatever real or imaginary monsters one believes the bad guys to be, even if the bad guys really are that bad. Unless it really takes "beyond a reasonable doubt" to the point that even a corrupted system is likelier to release a criminal than to convict an innocent, you, I, or your or my favorites are in at least as much danger of being framed and fried as any of those that deserve frying. A trial isn't the problem that much anyway. The real problem is the drip, drip of constant unfounded accusations and investigations, aided by most of the "MSM" and most of the rest of the Democrats, and doubtless led by a few key Democrats behind the scenes. General Flynn will probably get off...AFTER losing all his savings, home, etc, to pay his legal bills. And compared to the real target, he was just a pawn. |
