I added a dislike button, but Friday Bridge has reservations. What do you think?
Friday Bridge deleted his account so his objection is of no value. There is one more yes vote than no so I am leaving the dislike button. This poll is closed.

I voted yes because I am in favor of anything that helps members express their opinions. If I have the option of Disliking something, shouldn't I also have the option of Liking something? Yes, there are both Like and Dislike buttons available.

The thumbs up button is "like" and the thumbs down button is "dislike." We have both.

I voted against the dislike button. I absolutely dislike the YouTube "Dislike" button as it simply is a weapon for trolls who have no guts to openly state why they dislike and be ID'd by their "Disliking". Frankly, I tend to support stating an opinion that provides reasoning and supports one's point of view. I see no benefit to an opinion that merely trashes another person's opinion because it differs from yours. I must admit that I have been guilty of succumbing to that trap. Bottom line is that one can express an opposing opinion without trashing another's opinion. By avoiding trashing in an opinion, one adds a more positive spin to their opinion.
Incidentally, that is my opinion...….about the topic of buttons.

I gave your post a dislike to illustrate the difference between a dislike on the defunct Amz site and a dislike on proboards. At Amz the dislikes were anonymous which often led to accusations that could never be proven. Here, as on other proboards sites, the dislikers are named. You can see WHO clicked it and perhaps respond if you wish. And not to troll or anything, but your spelling has improved markedly.

macht nichts
I'm not much of a button-pusher.
If I feel the need to respond, I take the time to write it out.

For the sake of clarity, the like and dislike buttons on this forum do not serve the same purpose as did the yes and no choices on the Amazon discussion boards: Perhaps some of you recall that the Amazon boards asked participants if a comment contributed to the ongoing discussion. Hypothetically then, a person could dislike a comment but still give a person a "thumbs up" and vice versa. Disliking or liking something and finding comments relevant or irrelevant, are both value judgments. Nevertheless, having affection for something is purely subjective whereas deciding relevancy is more objective. I voted 'no' to including the dislike button on this forum because I dislike it , and because I do not think it contributes anything useful to the forum. Insulting remarks appear to be sufficient.

Like and Dislike buttons on this forum are for whether you agree or disagree with the post. On Amazon, I would vote Yes on a post I felt contributed to the discussion regardless of whether or not I agreed with it.
