When I look at Jackie’s life I am surprised at how she has weathered all the perils life has thrown at her and how she is still standing. From the time most fans knew her…(AGT) she has always had family problems.
Lisa was actually pushing her from the time her voice was noted as something special. She was arranging and driving Jackie all over to perform. Jackie actually auditioned for AGT twice in person, but was not selected. During this time Jacob was jealous of Jackie and thought he should be the one getting all the attention. As time went on and the short-lived “Growing up Evancho) it was evident, to me at least, that Jacob wanted what Jackie had.
The AGT show appeared to many that Jackie should have won. There might have been some back-stage micro-managing by family that made a deal, as they did not want Jackie tied to the entire post AGT touring.
Jackie had a big win with ‘O Holy Night’ and then to have David Foster produce her greatest album, ‘Dream With Me’ were well received and gave her a giant boost. That was her first PBS Special. The song ‘To Believe’ should have been submitted for a Grammy.
Jackie’s social media was handled by Lisa and could have been done much better by professionals. Jackie was performing but she had no input as to her own selections of other genres. She was packaged as this tiny 10-11 year old with an ‘operatic voice’. It was a long fight to keep that image.
Then Jackie got the honor of performing for Yara’s wedding in Sarasota Florida. Too bad it wasn’t released as an album.
IMHO the brightest star for Jackie was (at 12 years old) when she was the MC and star of Songs From the Silver Screen. By the way, another PBS Special. Different colors of her voice proved that she was not just another Classical Crossover singer.
During her early teens, she was touring to sold-out arenas and supporting her entire family. At 14, she released the album Awakening at Longwood Gardens. Another PBS Special.
She was invited to sing “for” the Pope and was very excited at that prospect. She was only to sing on an empty stage to a very mobile audience. She performed beautifully but was disappointed not to sing for the Pope and meet him.
Jacob’s jealousy finally burst and found a way to share some spotlight by becoming a transgender and dragging Jackie along for the event. Luckily she missed that event as she was singing the National Anthem for the Inauguration of Trump. Both of those events caused some of Jackie’s fans to abandon Jackie.
During all of her teen years Jackie was Touring and was sole support for a family of five plus a few strays that Lisa picked up. Both of Jackie’s parents found other people to share their lives and then divorces happened. The huge house that Jackie had bought became home for about ten people during the Covid shutdown.
The problems that Jackie has had to endure all her life had an effect on her personal life and health, I admire the hell that she has not had a complete breakdown with the trials she has faced.
The Masked Singer was a wonderful opportunity for her to showcase aspects of her voice outside of Classical Crossover. Covid robbed her a chance to tour with her new found talent…not new found but finally shown to the world.
From where I sit, I still love all colors of her voice and wish the rest of her family would get a job and let Jackie fly with a professional management team and publicist. She is determined to write her own music, but until she finally gets a GREAT song, she could follow some of the best singers of the last 70 years and soar. I have commented many times that Linda Rondstadt had a wonderful career that did not have any of her original music. She, like Jackie put their own stamp on any song they sing and it becomes theirs. Jackie and Linda are/were ‘song stylist’ that could sing any genre. At one time Linda was at top of Bilboards, Pop, Rock and Country.
These are ramblings of an 83 year old that just wants the best for Jackie and I hope to see her reset her career on a strong road that incorporates all genres and maybe some originals.
