In fact, if anything, I think that Ave Maria got her a lot of votes due to its popularity. It obviously didn't get her enough votes to win. She should have sung Pie Jesu for her final AGT song. She still wouldnt have won. It wasn't about the song choice, it was about the genre, the hip/cool factor, and the sob story. Saying Jackie would have taken votes from Grimm if she sang Pie Jesu instead of Ave Maria is pretty funny.  |

I’m positive most people thought that Jackie was too young to be working in Vegas and voted for the more mature MG. But "official" vote totals made up by OTTs at the time showed she did get the majority of votes, and won by over 5 million votes. Surely you aren't saying those OTT totals were wrong, are you?  |

I personally think it's more likely people voted for who they liked the best rather than if they thought the winner could deal with the prize. Well since Grace Vanderwaal and Kenzie Ziegler's music video's came out the exact same time ( 12:00am est July 21) it interesting to see how they do. Some comparisons Grace is just 5 months older than Kenzie. Grace and Kenzie both have large social media following. Kenzie's social media following is larger than Grace's but I think a much higher percentage of Grace's followers are there for her singing. Grace and Kenzie's youtube channel are about the same size with both having over 3 million followers. GraceVanderWaal Boyfriends 34,438 views Premiered Jul 21, 2023 kenzie anatomy 92,095 views Premiered Jul 21, 2023 It's only been a day and a half since they were released and Kenzie has been doing more PR than Grace so far. Kenzie has been on Entertainment tonight, Billboards and Just Jared JR. I haven't seen Grace doing as much PR yet which could reflect on the difference in numbers. Remember it has only been a little over a day since they both launched. I think we had this same discussion a few years back when Kenzie's "Hot" was released vs. Grace's "Waste My Time" which were released a few weeks apart. The Z-girls are influencers and have a large social media following - particularly her IG and Tik Tok. Kenzie's fans flock to whatever new video Kenzie has out (music or not) the first few weeks and then they move on to her next video. The YouTube following is irrelevant since Kenzie is linking from her IG page and she routinely gets huge numbers and her fans will follow the link. Her music videos always get off to a great start and then trail off according to how well it stands up tp repeated viewing. On Spotify and streaming services, the same happens and the trail off depends on how well the song stands up to repeated listening. The point is they love Kenzie as a dancer and style setter - they don't necessarily think of her as a singer and/or musician.
I do give Kenzie a lot more credit where I do to someone like Addison Rae or Dixie D'amelio who were just looking for the next place to expand their empire. I think Kenzie really wants this to happen and has worked very hard at it. For a while, I thought she was ready to break out but it didn't happen and she was dropped by Sony, went independent for a time and is now signed with Hollywood Records (owned by Disney). I think she wants to fit in a path similar to Tate McRae as a dance/pop entertainer since she has similar dance skills. I don't think she has anywhere near Tate's songwriting skills but Disney can afford to hire her some songwriting talent to work with her.
Getting back to the main point, Kenzie's views will always beat Grace's in the first year. I don't disagree with what you said that is why I also said "even though Kenzie has a larger following, Grace probably has a larger percent of her followers there for her singing". But seeing how they came out at the same time we can see the difference what they do after the release makes. Kenzie has more viewers now but how much has that came from the PR she did and how much PR will Grace start doing herself. Grace is also known to go on the same shows that Kenzie has been on in the last couple of days.
