There are some young folks with manners, and they're probably welcome almost anywhere. They're not in Antifa, that's for sure. Celebrities may have and spend money, but a large part of young fans don't buy albums or downloads or even paid subscriptions to streaming services. The entire actively anti-western or anti-capitalist universe is worth defeating, whether by war or other means. Not to say that domestic profiteering or political advantage should decide such things. But Ukrainian corruption is better than Putin's expansionist dictatorship. And so far it's only costing us equipment, much of which we'd be replacing soon enough anyway. I've done my time (although it happened to be a time when I wasn't likely to get shot at); others can do theirs now. Not fond of these useless people who never did theirs ordering others off to fight though. Perhaps I have a different look on things than many my age, but I am sympathetic to young people sick of moral pronouncements from boomers. We are the last generation who have a right to claim the culture has fallen apart. I'm not saying it hasn't, but our generation were the trailblazers. Casual sex? We made it the mantra of our generation. Drug use? We popularized it. Radical anti-western biases? That was us too. After all, those impressionable kids are radicalized by their professors who have predominantly been boomers. Everything you can think of that is bad with younger generations was inherited from us. Not you and I in particular, but our generational peers. If everything ends up with a cultural revolution type madness and our generation gets thrown against the wall, we supplied the bullets. So true and it isn't the young celebrities running around in cities robbing people or filling up the jails. Usually if they go down the wrong path it is self destruction not hurting others.
The baby boomers were the ones that had Woodstock, free love movement, drugs were everywhere, but most of all the baby boomers are the ones that taught Generation -Z just as you said. Anything that goes on now they were doing 50 to 60 years ago. For the most part all I see is the young generation celebrities are just like their piers. That like to do the same things other kids do. I wish they would put a name behind these young celebrities they are talking about instead of paint them all with one brush.

My dad was a vehement anti-facist, anti-racist, pro-union, veteran, new-deal Democrat, and he raised all of us the same way (except the veteran part). He loved pop music of his day, and he loved my music. He would have loved Billie Eilish and probably Jackie Evancho. He understood that generations change their culture, and he never bellyached like Uncle Puffy about the lack of polite little boys and girls or degenerate Hollywood celebrities, because he didn't lump people together derisively into convenient punching bags. Also, he would not have written this post because he realized that people are gonna people, so you just ignore them. I mostly do the same, but I don't have half his patience.

This is the problem with these forums, a dictator can do whatever he wants to direct the conversation however he wants. Unfortunate, but this is the last straw. I'm done here. I am sure Donkey and Colty will be quite happy. But Jackie will still be a future failure as I have always said. And I have always said none of this BS "comeback" will amount to anything. Yes I am glad to see Disappointed go because she speaks of hate towards Jackie, not just being a critic! Can’t you see the difference Richard? Disappointed ☹️ has had a hatred for Jackie from day one in this forum! I am also a critic of Jackie but I don’t hate her! I am a fan but unlike msims I am a realist one and know She isn’t that popular with most people or even know she is ! So Disappointed sees no other option for Jackie besides flipping burgers 🍔,there are a lot of careers out there, if she does go in the private sector and not sing 🎤, than we can leave her alone because she would no longer be a public figure and this forum can pic another singer that’s career is going nowhere,and is in steady decline! I will believe Disappointment is truly gone when she doesn’t post for several weeks!

Your reply was slightly more political so it was 51% off-topic so it was moved. It's a very fine line in a gray area but it has to be drawn. Sorry to see you leave, but you are always welcome back if you choose to rejoin us. Jackie will still be a future failure as I have always said. That depends on the definition of "failure". She was once a singing star and I agree it is very unlikely she will be one again. But I suspect she will be able to maintain a modestly successful singing career performing in small venues or family friendly concerts or senior citizen communities. But one never knows, which is why I am still here. |

I was never young, even when I was by the calendar. Nor ever far from conservative. "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" bothered me as a tween by glamorizing a fictional serial killer's approach to life's little problems, even if the tune was catchy. I'd actually have been quite tolerant except about the those exploring the fringes of self er, actualization by early 60's standards; no problem with people from any part of the world, depending on their CONDUCT; went to HS in a school that had children of diplomats of countries and cultures in opposition to each other in the same class, even if those didn't tend to talk to each other much, they knew darn well not to cause an incident. Behave like a mannered westerner when in a western country (additional self-restraint for your own beliefs is fine, just don't expect it of everyone else), you look the same to me as someone born that way, maybe better because you're making an effort. But yes, there are some to be very nonjudgemental, disorderly people in every generation. Even if some of them at first glance look more like me than not. You have NO idea how much I toned that down. :-) edit: freedom may include a variety I don't approve of, but it does not include demanding mainstream status from everyone else. Even the conventionally private should remain private, except for e.g. marriage announcements so others know not to poach. The variety of relationships is TMI aside from enough disclosure of precautions to minimize excuses of not knowing consequences. Rather than enumerating the rainbow or trying to increase the numbers of the different for the sake of political power, it's sufficient to say that nobody should be assaulted, threatened, or intimidated. Even someone with all the (non-confrontational) attributes of a traditional saint probably shouldn't (and didn't!) get everything they want - that doesn't exactly build character. More was expected of them, not less. |
