Since this is going to affect my wife's health insurance big time, I'll just drop this in here... “Sadly, instead of working to lower health costs for Americans, it seems President Trump will singlehandedly hike Americans’ health premiums. It is a spiteful act of vast, pointless sabotage leveled at working families and the middle class in every corner of America. Make no mistake about it, Trump will try to blame the Affordable Care Act, but this will fall on his back and he will pay the price for it. “President Trump has apparently decided to punish the American people for his inability to improve our health care system. Trumpcare collapsed because Americans overwhelmingly recognized the cruelty and higher costs it meant for them and their loved ones. Now, millions of hard-working American families will suffer just because President Trump wants them to. “If these reports are true, the President is walking away from the good faith, bipartisan Alexander-Murray negotiations and risking the health care of millions of Americans.” talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/trump-to-end-csr-payments

I'm not impressed with Mr Trump. I think he's a total screwup. It's obvious he doesn't give a damn about the poor. Look at Puerto Rico.

I'm not impressed with Mr Trump. I think he's a total screwup. It's obvious he doesn't give a damn about the poor. Look at Puerto Rico. The inadequate government response to the devastation in Puerto Rico is directly related to tRumps hatred of any culture not pure White! He has voiced his dislike for Mexicans, Latin Americans and any culture that speaks Spanish. He has shown the world that he recognizes and approves of the White Supremacist movement (Charleston), and is the first sitting president that will attend a hate group event (https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-speak-hate-group-event-003530788.html). Well, guess what? The ethnic background of the majority of Puerto Ricans is Spanish! (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Ricans). The American citizens of Puerto Rico are dying from this racist sub-human's inadequacies and he is unfit to hold the office of President of the United States. I am ashamed and embarrassed to have this orange orangutan representing our country!

In regards to Obamacare and those subsidies, Trump has the courts and the Justice Department on his side. I know the law doesn't mean much to some progressive, but for most conservatives, it does.

Don't count on it. He is being sued by over 20 states because of his actions concerning the Affordable Care Act. EDIT: Those under the ACA that voted for Trump (a lot) are going to lose their healthcare.

Pelosi: Dems may use spending bills to restore ObamaCare subsidiesSource: The Hill BY MIKE LILLIS - 10/13/17 04:14 PM EDT House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Friday urged Republicans to act immediately to restore ObamaCare insurance subsidies newly withheld by the Trump administration, saying Democrats may use emergency spending bills to secure the payments. She added that restoring the subsidies was a "matter of life and death." Pelosi said the most favorable route for ensuring disbursement of the cost-sharing reductions would be stand-alone legislation. “We’d like it to be in a free-standing bill next Tuesday,” she said during a hastily staged press briefing in the Capitol. But with GOP leaders opposing the ObamaCare subsidies, Democrats are also eying other legislative vehicles, including must-pass legislation to extend government funding in December and any number of emergency spending bills that might arrive before then as Congress scrambles to respond to a series of devastating natural disasters. thehill.com/homenews/house/355380-pelosi-dems-may-use-emergency-spending-bills-to-restore-obamacare

He will at the courts in the long run as well, even if it goes all the way to SCOTUS.

GOP Rep. breaks with Trump: Cutting health care subsidies does 'opposite' of what he promisedBY AVERY ANAPOL - 10/13/17 07:54 AM EDT A Republican lawmaker slammed President Trump’s action on health care Friday, saying it is the “opposite” of what he promised. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) said that cutting key payments to ObamaCare insurers will mean more of her constituents will be uninsured. “POTUS promised more access, affordable coverage,” Ros-Lehtinen tweeted. “This does opposite.” thehill.com/homenews/house/355270-gop-lawmaker-breaks-with-trump-cutting-health-care-subsidies-does-the-opposite

A.G. Schneiderman: We Will Sue To Defend Health Care SubsidiesSource: Office of Attorney General Eric Schneiderman New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman released the following statement: "Hundreds of thousands of New York families rely on the Affordable Care Act’s subsidies for their health care - and again and again, President Trump has threatened to cut off these subsidies to undermine our healthcare system and force Congress to the negotiating table. That's unacceptable. "I will not allow President Trump to once again use New York families as political pawns in his dangerous, partisan campaign to eviscerate the Affordable Care Act at any cost. "This summer, the courts granted our intervention to defend these vital subsidies and the quality, affordable health care they ensure for millions of families across the country. Our coalition of states stands ready to sue if President Trump cuts them off." In May, Attorney General Schneiderman and California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, leading a coalition of 18 Attorneys General, moved to intervene in House v. Price in order to protect millions of Americans' access to affordable health care. The DC Circuit granted their intervention in August. ag.ny.gov/press-release/ag-schneiderman-we-will-sue-defend-health-care-subsidies

Halt In Subsidies For Health Insurers Expected To Drive Up Costs For Middle ClassSource: NPR ALISON KODJAK Updated at 11:29 a.m. ET President Trump's decision Thursday to end subsidy payments to health insurance companies is expected to raise premiums for middle-class families and cost the federal government hundreds of billions of dollars. The administration said it would stop reimbursing insurers for discounts on co-payments and deductibles that they are required by law to offer to low-income consumers. The reimbursements are known as cost-sharing reduction payments, or CSRs. Insurance companies still have to give the discounts to low-income customers. So if the government doesn't reimburse the insurers, they'll make up the money by charging higher premiums for coverage. The subsidy cut was the second swipe the White House took at the Affordable Care Act insurance markets Thursday in what many critics say is a deliberate campaign to destabilize them in hopes of forcing Congress to repeal the law. "Ending the CSR payments is another sign that President Trump is doing what he can to undermine the stability of the individual market under the ACA," wrote Tim Jost, professor emeritus of law at Washington and Lee University who contributes to the Health Affairs blog. The decision will most directly affect middle-class families who buy their own insurance without financial help from the government. Consumers who earn more than 400 percent of the federal poverty level — an individual with income of about $48,000 or a family of four that makes more than $98,400 — will likely see their costs for coverage rise next year by an average of about 20 percent nationwide. People with lower incomes will be unaffected since the ACA, also known as Obamacare, provides government subsidies — in the form of tax credits — that ensure their out-of-pocket insurance costs remain stable. So when premiums rise, those tax credits rise in tandem. "We now know what Trumpcare looks like, and it's pretty ugly," said Ezekiel Emanuel, an oncologist who chairs the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania. "The people who are particularly going to hurt are the people who don't get any subsidies. They just have to buy their own insurance," Emanuel, one of the architects of the ACA, told Morning Edition on Friday. Ironically, the decision to end the $7 billion-a-year cost-sharing payments is likely to cost the federal government more than making them — nearly $200 billion over 10 years, according to the Congressional Budget Office. That is because the ACA requires that premiums don't exceed a set percentage of a person's income. So as premiums set by insurance companies rise over time, the government has to boost its tax credits so the cost to the consumer remains the same. Last year, about 85 percent of people who bought Obamacare insurance got a tax credit, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. ... www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2017/10/13/557541856/halt-in-subsidies-for-health-insurers-expected-to-drive-up-costs-for-middle-clas

45 promised his voters that he would repeal Obamacare, and replace it with a lower-cost plan that would cover everyone. What they got is the loss of the only affordable healthcare coverage they had - full stop; no replacement, no lowered costs - just nothing. And yet, many of them will go on supporting him. White House tells court it is immediately stopping ACA cost-sharing subsidiesSource: The Washington Post By Amy Goldstein and Juliet Eilperin October 13 at 2:23 PM The Trump administration informed a federal appeals court on Friday that the government would immediately halt payments to insurers that help millions of lower-income Americans afford coverage under the Affordable Care Act, formalizing a decision that could upend individual insurance markets across the country. In the filing to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, officials wrote that the Health and Human Services Department has stopped what’s known as cost-sharing reduction payments, which help offset deductibles and other out-of-pocket costs for roughly 7 million Americans. The payments were stopped, the filing said, because they were not formally appropriated by Congress. The documents include an Oct. 11 legal opinion from Attorney General Jeff Sessions, informing HHS and the Treasury Department that he believes “the best interpretation of the law” indicates that money appropriated to HHS “cannot be used to fund” the subsidies. Trump decided on Wednesday to cut off the payments — which were expected to total about $7 billion this year — even though several advisers had told him that doing so could have drastic consequences. Officials will not make an upcoming payment to insurers scheduled for Oct. 18, the court filing states. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/white-house-tells-court-it-is-immediately-stopping-aca-cost-sharing-subsidies/2017/10/13/4c404234-b01d-11e7-be94-fabb0f1e9ffb_story.html
