Maddie and her best friend Lilia co-presented an award to Lilia's mother Jane Buckingham today at the 10th Annual Empathy Rocks event at a private residence in Bel Air, CA, presented by the Children Mending Hearts foundation.

Sean Lew & Kaycee Rice are two dancers that worked with Maddie as Brian Friedman assistants and traveled around the US for a year. They are now on THE WORLD OF DANCE.

Continuing the "Maddie's friends" theme, below are two videos featuring dancer Tate McRae. Maddie and Tate became friends over the years from being at some of the same dance competition conventions together, but they don't often get to see each other. Tate lives in Canada. In 2016, she was one of the top three finalists on the Fox TV series "So You Think You Can Dance" when Maddie was a judge for the show. Tate also pursues interests in singing and songwriting. These two dance videos are not among her most recent, but they are interesting and artistic.

This is a June 2015 music video for "Rule the World" by Canadian band, Walk Off The Earth. Tate was 11 at the time, and her partner Myles Erlick was 16. Myles had danced the role of Billy Elliot in Chicago, Toronto and on Broadway. The video was filmed in a pop art gallery.



This July 2015 video featuring Tate (11) with Briar Nolet (16) has 1.4 million views. The video is titled "Bird Girls" and the song is "Bird Gerhl" by Antony and The Johnsons (also Canadian).

I forgot to say that the "Rule the World" video above was choreographed by Blake McGrath, who is also a good friend of Maddie. The two of them have worked together frequently.

A couple of months ago, Maddie and her close friend Charlize filmed a fun little video at Maddie's house. It was set to a song written and performed by Blake McGrath.



This is the dance video for the song, choreographed by and featuring Blake, and other dancers including Sean Lew and Kaycee Rice.

Correction: The dance video (above) for the song "Missing You", written and sung by Blake McGrath, was choreographed by Tessandra Chavez, an Emmy-winning choreographer who also happens to be a good friend of Maddie.

Tessandra Chavez, Derek Hough and Julianne Hough (all good friends of Maddie) won a 2015 Emmy for Outstanding Choreography for this performance on the season finale of Dancing With The Stars when Sia was the guest performer. Although Maddie has performed twice on DWTS, she was not in this performance. The child dancers are Emma York and Joey German.

RE: Tate McRae is one of the only dancers that in my opinion was a better dancer than Maddie when she was still in competition Tate came in 1st place at "THE DANCE AWARDS" and Maddie 4th that is the biggest actually dancing competition in the US and you had to be either a national or regional champing to enter and it took a full week to go through.

But probably the best in Maddie's age group was Sophia Lucia I can't find anything she ever lost and she still holds the world's record of 55 pirouettes. But sadly Sophia Lucia recently gave up her dancing shoes to pursue other careers like Maddie. Even Tate McRae is now pursuing sing and writing songs. Tate's music videos are now receiving many times more views that her Dancing video's even though she is one of the best dancers.


Dancing at a competitive level is very hard on the body and the number of hours you have to put in doesn't leave time for much else and even then you are lucky if you can make 80k a year and your career is over in your 30's.

Sophia Lucia was ineligible because she won it the year before and is seen at the end handing the award to the new winner Tate McRae. Now when people say that this one or that one is a better dancer than Maddie they best take a look at the ones who actually beat her in a contest to sees what it takes to beat her. The others weren't spending 65 hrs a week making a TV show either. There were 150 National and regional champing competing for dancer of the year in the junior level..

RE: Maddie's friends, one of Maddie's best friends is Stephanie Mincone she was the Dancer that nobody knew that was Maddie's double. Did Sia dump her when she could no longer double for Maddie because Maddie out grew her by about 6in like David Foster did Jackie when the next young talent came along. No Sia made Stephanie part of the team and she went on the European tour with Sia while Maddie was Judge on SYTYCD of course she always work with Maddie on tour and does about half the songs and Maddie does the rest. She still dances with Maddie occasionally.
