Philosophy
This forum is a descendant of the Jackie Evancho Amazon Forum. It discusses Jackie and the entertainment industry in general. However, we have threads for other issues as well (such as politics). It is not a fan forum so positive as well as negative comments are welcome.
Our goal is free speech as much as is reasonably possible. This means minimal moderation, but not zero moderation, which would result in chaos. The danger of free speech is that some members may make posts that are controversial or unwanted by other members. (In this context, "controversial" refers to posts that are not merely negative but posts that many members may find offensive.) Too many such posts may drive some members away. Our solution is not to ban members (other than spammers, who will be banned) but to require that posts deemed controversial be posted in certain specific threads on the forum. This way, no member is ever silenced and those who want to avoid reading controversial posts can ignore the threads that contain such posts. And those who want to view or discuss controversial subjects/posters can easily find them.
We require posters to show basic respect to other posters.
Administration of the Forum
At present, there are 3 admins: myself, Rick Olsen and Agog.
Formal Warning: If a majority vote of admins deems that a member is making too many controversial posts, we will issue a formal warning to the member to restrict his/her controversial posts to certain threads. Non-controversial posts will not be affected. A formal warning can also be issued if a majority vote of admins deems a member to be making unduly disrespectful posts.
Restricted Members: If a member consistently ignores the Formal Warning, a majority vote of admins can choose to change that member's posting privileges to restrict him/her to specific threads.
Banning Members: For reasons cited above, the policy of this forum is not to ban members (other than spammers) since we have a better way of dealing with the issue. This policy can be revisited if the necessity arises.
Editing and Deleting posts: A majority vote of admins is required to delete a post (other than spam posts, which should be deleted immediately) or to make a major edit of a post. Individual admins may delete posts they deem to be extreme; however, no such posts have been made thus far (other than spam posts).
It takes a majority vote of admins to perform the above functions. But admins can act alone to ban spammers, admonish members, delete extreme posts, make minor edits of posts, move posts to threads deemed more suitable, create boards/threads, etc.
We welcome input and discussion of forum rules. Rules will be changed as necessary as the forum evolves.
