At Least I'll Have Santa - Lyrics It's coming on Christmas sang Joni I'll be home said Bing And all these holiday melodies Are ones we used to sing It's beautiful this time of year And snowflakes bring a kind of cheer What's standing in my memory clear Is having those I love right here Chorus I won't lie and say I wouldn't love to unwrap you on Christmas day But I'm all right at least I'll have Santa to visit me tonight I can see the Christmas lights Without your hand in mine And Jacklyn's (?) stocking's lonely But one will do just fine And I can hang a ribbon With mistletoe above But I won't feel so lonesome Cos I've got myself to love Chorus Chorus You know Jackie wrote those lyrics....she wrote "I won't lie" in a recent Instagram post...the one where she said it hit her hard when fans commented on how skinny she looked in that one Instagram video. lol

I have to say that Jackie's new song is extremely derivative of "Please Come Home for Christmas".
Obviously, the melody of the chorus is similar. But it's much more than that. The subject is the same: someone expressing the loneliness they feel during Christmas after their lover has left them. The slow tempo is similar and the the rhythm of the accompaniment is similar. The structure is similar - two verses, each with 4 lines, then a chorus. It cannot all be co-incidence.
It's as if they realized they needed 51% original work to avoid copyright infringement so they sat down with the sheet music of "Please Come Home for Christmas" and started making changes and stopped when they reach 51%. It's embarrassing to release this as an original even if it meets the minimum legal standard. Someone may want to bring this to Jackie's attention.

I didn't analyze it quite that much in depth, and I knew more than just the chorus was similar, but the chorus is what really stood out to me. You can almost overlay the songs and for much of it, Jackies version fits right over it. Sad...Jackie's a pro, she should know better than this, unless someone "wrote" it for her and she just isn't familiar with this song. This is why she needs some real pros helping her write the music for her lyrics, people with a proven history of writing successful, original songs. If someone did this for her, I don't believe they have her best interests at heart...not original and done on the cheap...and it's so lazy.

By the way, according to Wikipedia "Forty-two years after it first charted, the Eagles' 1978 recording of "Please Come Home for Christmas" re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart at No. 45 (on the chart dated January 2, 2021)."
I will guess that whoever wrote Jackie's version heard it in when it hit the Billboard Hot 100. Or maybe it's another amazing co-incidence.

I used an online audio comparison app to compare it with the Charles Brown version. "The similarity between these two audio files is 33.52%" Whatever that means. We wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

It would be interesting to compare the Charles Brown version to the Eagles version.
It would serve as a "baseline" for comparison purposes.

What I mean is to use the same audio comparison app to compare the Eagles version to the original Charles Brown version.
The result would be expected to be close to 100%.

We wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Does it measure lyrics and music, or just the music part. We know the lyrics are totally changed, so hopefully it's just the melody part.
