Some people spend their lives despising someone they don’t even know. Others spend their lives worshipping someone they don’t even know. Which is sad, which is happy? Which is better?

It is now confirmed that Grace Vanderwaal's role in Megalopolis is that of the skanky pop star Vesta Sweetwater in Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis. She will soon be heading off to the Cannes Film Festival for its premiere. The film is apparently off the wall in an Apocalypse Now sort of way with one person who saw it describing it as "Julius Caesar meets Mad Max meets Caligula." The comments from those who have seen it have been largely positive but all say it is a challenging film. Some have called it "incredible" and others say it is "batsh!t crazy." It certainly sounds like it will be a ride.
The film is set in New York after it has been partially destroyed by some natural disaster. There is a battle over the rebuilding between a visionary architect (played by Adam Driver) and a more conservative mayor (played by Giancarlo Esposito) over the future of the city. The daughter of the mayor (played by Nathalie Emmanuel) is dating the architect and is stuck in the middle.
From descriptions, Megalopolis, like many of Coppola's movies, has no white hats and black hats but lots of grey hats. The mayor is somewhat corrupt, the architect is a womanizer who will go after anything in a skirt and Grace's character is a teenage pop star who escapes poverty by sleeping her way to the top. Everyone has skeletons in their closet and are not a fun bunch. It's basically what happens when you have people who are OK in their family lives and productive in their public lives but become decadent once they taste real success.

I don't always like Lana Del Ray's albums but you have to respect her. She is a true individual (albeit a little wacky), didn't back down to whiners on Twitter who tried to cancel her and told them to f**k off, and just keeps making the music she wants to make without paying any attention to trends. She is a genuine one of a kind and it's nice to see someone win by bucking convention. It helps that she's also immensely talented. Who would think she would ever make a country album? But she did and it will probably be successful and if it isn't she won't give a damn.

Two things I worry about after reading everything #1 I hope they don't make this a Woke film like they seem to want to make these days. The second thing I am a little concerned about is that it seems so much to pack in one 2hr movie. It sounds like it could have been an 8 or 10 episode series.
One thing is for sure, and that is Grace loves playing the bad girl over a sweet Disney character. It's not to far fetched that Grace may just want to put her time into being an actor over a singer.

I think if it were overly "woke," the Hollywood types would have been fighting each other to finance it and push it out. They've been spending boatloads of money on films no one wants to see. The message in Hollywood is "these guys are bad, these guys are good" whereas Coppola is more "these guys are bad, and these guys are a little worse." So it could be biased towards the left but basically no one comes out unscathed.
I think part of it is that Grace never was that sweet innocent little girl - a lot of that was a creation of AGT handlers. She was just a typical preteen kid of wealthy NYC parents who just happened to have some raw talent for writing songs. So when she started acting more like her peers (basically hipsters in training), some people were shocked. Interestingly, when she has mentioned that when she was very young, she wanted to be an actress - not a musician but then changed her mind. She could end up with both. She is not only acting in a Francis Ford Coppola film but has written music for it. That is a bit of an accomplishment for a 20 year old.

That's right, I forgot that she wrote the music for it. That IS an accomplishment. Now I'm even more curious about this movie.

Some people spend their lives despising someone they don’t even know. Others spend their lives worshipping someone they don’t even know. Which is sad, which is happy? Which is better? You forgot to mention some people simply state facts. For example, if I said there were two incompetent old fools running for president, is that despising either? Nope, just stating a fact.

Yes, but the truly diabolic have an agenda, self admittedly, and attempt to mesh that agenda with the occasional fact in an attempt to appear reasonable. But in reality they mix fact and fiction into a diabolical stew of toxic brew. ROFL Run Jackie and Maggie!!!!!
