When she re-upped her original contract with Columbia there was apparently added a provision that she had to approve any releases. This probably did not seem like an issue at the time since she was churning out music at a breakneck pace and seemed excited to do more. There's no evidence of this. I know she never made any mention of such a thing, and I highly doubt you have access to her contract The problems began in 2020. She had done a couple of modeling gigs for Chanel in NYC and Paris, was at the Stargirl premiere in Hollywood, and had put the finishing touches on Letters, Volume II. She did an IG live where she played some new songs and everyone (including her label) got excited and Columbia sent her a studio setup including a new laptop on the house. A few weeks later when the pandemic was in full swing, she announced a delay in the EP because she wanted to tour when it came out and would wait a few months to see what happened. Then suddenly she decided she wanted to go to a performing arts boarding school in middle of nowhere Michigan (Interlochen) and more delays. Grace had planned to release Letters Vol 2 in June 2020. On June 15, due to all of the social unrest that was occurring at the time, she stated that "these are heartbreaking times; I don't feel that this is the best time to ask for your attention it belongs elsewhere for the time being." Had nothing to do with not being able to tour. apparently got into some undisclosed trouble and only stayed there a year - with the second half at home. There is no "undisclosed trouble" unless you're in the habit of believing the rumors that teens like to spread about each other on social media. She went home in November 2020 after Michigan increased their covid lockdown measures which would have forced Grace to remain in her dorm most of the time. She had the choice to continue from home and she jumped at the chance. Who can blame her? I certainly wouldn't have wanted to stay under those conditions. She was also isolated by a lot of the other students, so she chose to finish out the Spring semester online as well, and then chose not to waste her money on another year (she personally paid for the schooling) and completed her senior year elsewhere. She then ended up moving in with her sister in Savannah for a year, then getting her own place in Savannah for a year, then moving to NYC. Along the way, she had at least one major relationship that was off and on for months. Over that whole period of multiple years, she at times went through bouts of depression and then energy and it seems she kept wanting to change up what her next album would look like depending on her mood. She finally did release what was supposed to be the lead single of the album ("Don't Assume What You Don't Know") and said again the new album was coming "soon." There was some pressure for another single and "Repeat" was released and then more *crickets*. A year later came "Lion's Den" then rinse and repeat. Finally, she okd a song leftover from the Letters, Volume I sessions in 2019 ("Boyfriends"). You've got your timeline a bit mixed up. She was still living with her parents when she released "Don't Assume What You Don't Know" and "Repeat" in the Spring of 2021. She started living with her sister in July 2021, and then got her own place in June the following year, followed by a move to NYC around March or April in 2023. As for her delayed music releases, from what she has said, she can never seem to make progress because there are too many cooks in the kitchen. She commented on a live about how many people have to approve something before anything gets done. Despite stalling on her own album, she had little problem churning out music for Hollywood Stargirl and Megalopolis for release. I think her label decided to stop spending money on studio time to record songs that she would not allow to be released for undisclosed reasons. Columbia is still pushing her old material as she keeps getting over 35 million streams a year with little to no effort. She just seems to be a bit of a head case. There is nothing to suggest that Columbia is actively doing anything with her music. It's just has bouts of popularity on TikTok, which in turn greatly boost those listening on Spotify and other streaming services. At the end of the day, it sounds like Columbia dragged their feet and wouldn't approve of what Grace wanted to do with her music. She seems optimistic about how she's progressing with her album at the moment, so now we just wait and see if she can manage to do things how she wants to.

It looks to me from what you have written that Grace may just go the acting route. She'll no doubt continue with acting if she keeps getting roles she likes, but it's very obvious that her music is her number one priority based on everything she has said, including her latest interview. Touring is still her favorite thing she gets to do. She won't be abandoning music any time in the near future. We will just have to wait and see. But right now Grace seems to be living her part as the bad girl in Megalopolis and she seems very happy at it. But the show hasn't even came out yet so just maybe she will be doing a lot of promotion for that. Which will put her singing back even farther and she may even get another acting gig.
Edit: When the time comes for Megalopolis to really start it's promotion what will count as much as how big of a part Grace has is her number of her followers and at 6.6 million on instagram most in the age group they would be looking for, they are not going to pass her by.

Mike couldn’t provide Jackie protection, he’s a total joke! He’s lived off of Jackie for over a decade, instead of getting protection for his daughter, he pockets the money 💴 and says I got this at least if it doesn’t interfere with me getting a sun tan by the pool! You were told prior that you go after Mike frequently btw because you refuse to hold Jackie accountable for her own career decisions. Mike was put into that position because he and Jackie wanted him to be in that position. If you cannot respect Jackie and her decisions , its disingenuous to call yourself a Jackie fan. That's funny - I've always thought that being a fan of a musical artist involved enjoying their music.

We will just have to wait and see. But right now Grace seems to be living her part as the bad girl in Megalopolis and she seems very happy at it. She's not doing anything different from what she has done in the past before ever getting that role. It's actually quite a bit tamer than some things she has done, so not really related to her "Megalopolis" character. Just Grace being Grace.

I highly doubt you have access to her contract You are correct - I do not have access to her contract. But I know what a standard recording contract is like and I doubt she is able to gain major concessions a la Taylor Swift. The standard is they will deliver a minimum of x albums or y songs over a period of z years. The label agrees to an advance that will be paid back and a budget for recording costs. It is not uncommon on re-upped contracts to have an agreement that both label and artist have to give a final OK to a release. We know that Columbia ok'd it since they set a release date. We also know that they had a tentative date around the time of DAWYDK in 2021. So why was it never released? I doubt Columbia was holding it back since they approved it, had paid for the studio budget, the fans were excited by the stuff Grace was teasing, and Columbia themselves were excited enough to give her equipment. So who else could hold it up? It sure wasn't the label.
Grace had planned to release Letters Vol 2 in June 2020. On June 15, due to all of the social unrest that was occurring at the time, she stated that "these are heartbreaking times; I don't feel that this is the best time to ask for your attention it belongs elsewhere for the time being." You are correct on that one. I was thinking of the time a few years later on a live (hard to keep track of all the instances of the album is coming out "soon"), when she said she wanted to set up the tour first and how complicated it all was to do. There is no "undisclosed trouble" unless you're in the habit of believing the rumors that teens like to spread about each other on social media. I am not aware of other students saying anything on social media but that might have been the case. I was referring to an instance of some issue when the school had a discussion with her parents (she mentioned it on an IG Live). It may have been the teenage drama you referred to above, it might have been some manifestation of her rebellious streak, or it may have been something like Grace blowing off assignment deadlines as she has admitted doing numerous times in the past. I don't know, she didn't say, and hence I referred to it as "undisclosed." You've got your timeline a bit mixed up. I wasn't very clear there. The tale of releases were not intended to be subsequent to the timeline of her moving around but concurrent. I should have started a new paragraph - my bad. As for her delayed music releases, from what she has said, she can never seem to make progress because there are too many cooks in the kitchen. She commented on a live about how many people have to approve something before anything gets done. Bureaucracy can be like that but everyone else has to deal with it too and they got stuff out. In the end, Columbia is there to make money and Grace has made them money. Not as much money as Miley but money nonetheless. There is also the simple fact that they DID approve the EP and release dates were set multiple times. I doubt Columbia really cared. In fact, they allowed a five year old song be released as her last single and gave OKs for her unreleased music to appear on multiple film soundtracks for other companies. I just think Grace is someone who lives in the moment and wants her next release to reflect where she is right now. In the last few years of her life, however, she has been a rapidly moving target. The fact that she got out of her contract with Columbia without ever releasing an album (her previous deal was with Syco and distributed by Columbia) is an indication some deal was worked out with her new management. I don't know if she wanted out or they were tired of her, but it is a bit unusual. Given she is streaming decent numbers, she will get signed if she wants to be signed but there may be more demands on her. There is nothing to suggest that Columbia is actively doing anything with her music. In streaming, music gets pushed by a label to a distributor who in turn pushes it out to streaming platforms for a period of time. There is a fee for this and it is renewed automatically unless the track is pulled. As far as I know, all of Grace's released music is still all available for streaming on all major platforms. If an artist leaves a label and their songs never really caught on, they will no longer be pushed to the distributor and it becomes the equivalent of an out of print album. I think you may have thought I was referring to promotion/advertising. At the end of the day, it sounds like Columbia dragged their feet and wouldn't approve of what Grace wanted to do with her music. She seems optimistic about how she's progressing with her album at the moment, so now we just wait and see if she can manage to do things how she wants to. Columbia just wants to make money. As far as labels go, they are one of the most artist-friendly and traditionally have given a lot of slack and artistic freedom to their artists. This is why they held on to artists like Dylan, Springsteen, and Pink Floyd whose musical output is outside the box. It also have become a landing place for singers whose labels tried to keep them in a box - the most recent example being Miley Cyrus. I really find it hard to believe they would drag their feet when they don't do that with anyone else and displayed a great deal of enthusiasm for the music she was creating to the point of hiring top tier producers, sending her equipment, etc. Particularly when Grace herself has said for years how much she appreciated them and praised them for their patience and support. There obviously is more to the story that we don't know but I think it a more likely scenario that something happened in her life and she wanted a clean break. What that might be I have no idea but she does seem happier recently than I have seen her since pre-pandemic.

A little anecdote from a previous post about Ole Columbia since its on topic: My reference to Jackie's past albums is that they do not generate major streams for reasons we mostly agree upon and that means she is not making as significant money from her back catalogue in the present as other artists. www.nytimes.com/2021/05/07/arts/music/streaming-music-payments.htmlMusicians Say Streaming Doesn’t Pay. Can the Industry Change? Services like Spotify and Apple Music pulled the business back from the brink. But artists say they can’t make a living. And their complaints are getting louder. By Ben Sisario Published May 7, 2021 Updated May 10, 2021 One example of this tension is the Los Angeles pop duo Frenship. In 2016, the group, featuring Brett Hite and James Sunderland, had a breakout hit with “Capsize,” recorded with the singer and songwriter Emily Warren. Frenship released the song independently, and it was quickly added to a prominent playlist on Spotify. “Capsize” notched 40 million streams in 10 weeks, yielding $150,000 in payments, the group said. “Spotify gave us our career,” Hite said in an interview. Then the group signed with Columbia Records, which started a radio promotion campaign around “Capsize.” The song failed to crack the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, but it remained a steady streaming success, now at about 570 million clicks on Spotify. The band declined to disclose specific details of its time at Columbia — in its separation agreement with the label in 2018, it agreed to confidentiality — but Hite encapsulated his time in the majors with an anecdote about shopping for a car in the months after “Capsize” took off. “ I’m looking at BMWs, and then when I start doing the breakdown I ended up leasing a Honda CR-V,” he said. “I’ll let that be the narrative for where our hit song got us.” The group is now preparing its next release independently. Columbia declined to comment.

Like, totally rad, dude. I hesitate to mention this but ... is it my imagination or does Jackie's right arm look really really thin? They look very skinny head on, but not sure if they are more skinny than they have been recently. She has talked in a very recent interview how much she's still struggling with the anorexia, and has even told herself "you are going to die, you know", to try and snap herself out of it. It's all very concerning, to be honest. She said 1/3 of people with her diagnosis don't survive. I'm glad the odds are in her favor, but it's scary to hear her admit that several goes at the treatment haven't "taken", and that the reason is because she still fights "self-loathing". So hard to comprehend, that someone so sweet has to fight thoughts of "self-loathing".

Like, totally rad, dude. I hesitate to mention this but ... is it my imagination or does Jackie's right arm look really really thin? I was a little concerned at first glance but their appearance is more normal in the video on the second slide of the post. I think it's just a weird angle and using a mirror. In the first slide, they both look about 11 years old.
