What a train wreck. My preference has always been for music that you hear, not what kind of show they put on. If you just listen to JoJo's voice she sounds like someone singing while they're mowing the lawn wearing headphones. At least Jackie can carry a tune. Grace has charisma. Billie has Finneas. Olivia Rodrigo is porkable. JoJo Siwa is a flushable piece of dumpage. What do you mean by Olivia Rodrigo is porkable and for once Billie doesn't have Finneas.

In the past, I have mentioned that it would be unlikely for Grace Vanderwaal to become some sort of pop superstar given she fell into the "alt-pop" category. However, I did think she had a good chance to rise to a queen in that category along the lines of a Florence Welch or Lana Del Ray. At least I thought that prior to her lengthy hiatus. Although her back catalogue continued to stream, I guessed it would take her at least a year and a half to get back to where she was pre-pandemic for new material.
Well, I may have to move up that schedule. First of all, her team has used the Megalopolis opening masterfully to generate free publicity and timed her new music and magazine photo shoots to stagger between red carper events to keep her face out there. She came back with a strong track ("Call It What You Want") as her first single to whet the appetite and then followed it up with "What's Left of Me." I think the response to that song caught even Grace's team off guard as in two weeks it has climbed to over 1 million streams on Spotify while the video has 671k streams, the lyric video has over 25k streams in a week, the behind-the-scenes to the video has 50k streams, and even the trailer for the video has over 50k streams. It also appears the song is spreading though TikTok like a virus as there the videos using it are in the hundreds and climbing every hour.
The song has the potential to be the ultimate Gen Z breakup song with people having emotional reactions to the lyrics - some reactions seem like borderline mental episodes. It was written by Grace and her friend (and former American Idol contestant) Tiffany Stringer who apparently met in a coffee shop, discovered they both had recently ended bad relationships, and began writing this song together as a cathartic experience. Tiffany knew a producer named Jack Riley, they finished the song with him, and Grace recorded it at his home studio. Since it it is probably a composite of both their experiences, the lyrics are a bit of a Rorshach test where people can interpret them as mirroring their own relationship from hell.
In the past few weeks, spurred on by this song, Grace's monthly listeners began increasing by hundreds and then thousands each day and now is increasing in the tens of thousands per day. Currently, she is at 1,353,330 monthly listeners and growing. This song is getting all kinds of attention and could possibly be a breakthrough song for her although it's a bit early to tell. I am pretty sure that, given the reaction, it is a good bet that this song will be covered by other artists in the future.
It is apparently out on radio now on the West Coast and Tiffany Stringer is very excited to hear it. She's been trying to make it (she's a lower tier alt-pop singer with about 60k monthly listeners) and she has never been associated with any song that has hit the ground running like this one. Needless to say, she's on cloud nine right now:
I don't know if they teamed up for anything else on Grace's forthcoming album or if they did anything that Tiffany recorded but this could certainly help establish her career potential as a songwriter. Grace was already established in that regard from the start but Tiffany was more known as a singer.
As a side note, it turns out Tiffany is also a friend with Emily Bear. They do follow each other (as does Tiffany and Grace) but I don't know if her and Emily have ever written or recorded together. If they ever got together, a Grace-Tiffany-Emily collaboration on some songs could be interesting.

Ahhh, she's sooooooo happy!!! That's great. And it is a great song.

It is apparently out on radio now on the West Coast and Tiffany Stringer is very excited to hear it. There's nothing to indicate that "What's Left of Me" is being played on the radio. It's more likely that she is streaming it through Spotify or one of the other services. The song has definitely been doing very well for Grace, though. This could be exactly what she needed. She seems pretty excited by the reception it has been receiving and is doing a giveaway of some autographed posters for it with the following message:

Jackie couldn't take that type of a fall with her 80 year old bones. Then again Jackie is never going to do a high energy show like other Pop stars under 40 she just doesn't have the energy. So sad how her family allowed this to happen to her under their noses.

Jackie’s health is Jackie’s parents fault, they didn’t notice the differences in her appearance from when she started withdrawing from food 🥘! They should have got her some psychological help with the poor self image she felt!

In my opinion Jackie could have had a lot more success than she did if she had professional management!
