There's still a classical category, right? Almost by definition classical equals well-aged, i.e. NOT NEW. Most of everything is cr@p. That which survives, maybe isn't. Doesn't all have to be what we think of as classical now; no doubt some of the Beach Boys stuff (as an example of something hardly highbrow) will be around for centuries too. You seem to forget that classical music survives only because it is heavily subsidized by tax and other incentives. So popular music is cr@p that the masses like whereas classical music is cr@p favored by the ruling elites. Classical music is and has always been an art form of the elites. But entertainment has now been democratized, which is why classical has been displaced by popular music like pop, rock, country, rap, etc.

Most of those who donate aren't either. Popularity is ONLY a measure of how many sheep are striving to be <sarcasm>unique individuals</sarcasm> by being all alike that there are out there and how much $$ can be obtained from them. To be popular is an insult, not a compliment.

Unfortunately, that path can often keep you obscure and in the poor house.

LoL...you sound like a temperamental artist, determined not to "sell out" for money and fame, so as to maintain his artistic integrity. Unfortunately, that path can often keep you obscure and in the poor house. Art is ultimately communication. Both what someone wants to say, and what others are willing to hear, have some role. Perfection that nobody hears is pointless (except internally to the artist), but so is one-dimensional raw anger (or any other raw emotion) that millions hear; and arguably, the former only hurts the one not being heard, while the latter just might harm many more. Either extreme compromises the communication, whether because nobody else is interested, or because so little is actually being communicated. Everybody should keep a non-art skill on the back burner, just in case. :-) But a majority is only of value in the marketplace, and even that can be misleading; in too many cases, the majority tends to be everyone from barely to the right of the center of the bell curve, all the way down to near-vegetative persons at the extreme left; rarely is the majority the high half of the bell curve plus a bit*, given the tendency to take the easy way (or pursue power) by pandering to the least common denominator. Remember the original Star Trek on TV? Back then, networks were most persuaded by "how many"; in that case, they neglected demographics, which suggest the value (in terms of $$ spent or advertising to target that) of the audience; had they taken demographics into account, it might have lasted longer (although to be sure, it's hard to maintain writing quality). Popularity worship is just another form of empty idolatry. * a stock market might be something of a case for crowd sourcing doing better than one might expect (although still quite fallible), but that's because it's self-selecting for those who have $$ to risk and therefore some skills to have acquired the $$ and some incentive to invest wisely.

The original Star Trek ended than started all the spin offs. Star Trek the animated series. The Next Generation Deep Space Nine Voyager Enterprise Discover Plus several large Movies. A lot of time the actors just want to move on like a lot of the original Star Trek actors. There has been a lot of TV series where the show is based on high school and the actors just out grow the show. Look at Olivia Rodrigo in "High School Musical" she is 19 years old and they want her to do 2 more series. I hope she can find something after the show ends.

The original amazon forum was a Fan forum period until Rick and Maw/hc showed up with malicious intent. Once Maw/HC saw the success of DWM she spammed opera (condescending Jackie fans as those who should listen to real opera not the opera that Jackie sings, they didnt get that and btw Rick never got it either that she wasnt a classical/opera singer and the condescension continues among trolls still). Maw/HC created massive conflict (while minimizing her own involvement in it) using Rick who was very instrumental in the manipulation and turning what actual fans were there away or into anti-fans, it took like five years for another chatter to figure out the game. Lisa trusted her fellow mods the Bananas, who werent qualified to moderate a lemonade stand much less be involved in a forum that was hardly a fan forum, it had a very bad element to it. When Mike was there it was thriving but Mike stopped being involved and thats possibly due to HC/Maw trying to influence others against Mike who complimented me. Because he complimented me, that agitated others and particularly Rick who was jealous and wanted to be considered a #1 fan, I could not care less what anyone thought of me. It was about Jackie. Lisa was inundated (even by her own female mods) to have me removed. So the influence that Mawriter/HC and Rick had in those days was to convince others that I was this straw man, instead of someone who addressed the problems in the forum accurately. Lisa already wanted to get rid of me (who was already feeling powerless with Jackie's career) but what happened really was that I posted a preview of the song that I thought was legit (but wasnt authorized by Lisa or Ana, who knew?), because after all all her albums up until that point could be streamed for free just when they were released and its amusing now to think now with streaming taking off just how silly that was. Those who wanted me out felt that it justified their dumb rationale. Even though that wasnt exactly a place I wanted anything to do with, since the involvement of Lisa and the bananas. Lisa made a bad mistake (and a series of other bad mistakes) and frankly everyone who complained about me made a mistake. Rick who complained about me to Lisa was removed (funny) and the entire forum was deleted by Lisa (hilarious), who I assume found others unreasonable and Lisa was unreasonable herself. Karma is a beautiful beautiful thing. Soon Maw/HC was gone (she was exposed and Rick turned on her) and Rick created the cat forum, few fans go there (and its spammed) and very few people go here, the few trolls here use multiple aliases but they are the exact same person who cant quote a post. Amazon was deleted I think a year after that happened and her career has id say improved since all this happened (pre-pandemic) and the song in question "All of the Stars" has among the most youtube hits out of any of her authorized pop videos (well if you want to count Angel but still) So it wasnt like I did anything to hurt that wonderful song and its impact. Its insane to think I would do anything purposely to negate the impact. I AM a Fan! My takeaway is simply that if you wanna side with the wrong people bad things happen. Good fans are always right and always will be right and many take the high road and avoid the propaganda bs that is churned here. As always those who resort to troll/spam/lie, rather than support a terrific artist can continue to fart in the wind but who cares?

You don't have to get in shape or go to training camp. Just go out to your back yard and sit in your wagon. The ghost of Vince Lombardi will show up and pull you to greatness, maybe several Super Bowls.

The original amazon forum was a Fan forum period ... Nothing on Amazon was ever a fan forum. The only agenda on Amazon was to increase Jeff Bezos' net worth. The forums were there to generate buzz and nothing else. When the constant bickering on forums ended up with people being doxed and threatened, it was more trouble than it was worth and Amazon killed it. But that had nothing to do with Jackie. Her forum was just collateral damage. The idea that Amazon wanted a fan forum is silly - they don't care who you like or dislike so long as you buy something. If the Amazon forum was more pro-Jackie at first, that is because her OTT fans would be the most motivated to use it. But OTT fans of any stripe tend to irritate normal fans or fans of other artists. That is why I never understand the purpose of OTT behavior among fans of Jackie (or anyone else). When curious potential fans come to check out a singer and see her fans overplaying their hand and dissing some artist they like, it builds up a resistance to giving Jackie a fair chance. During TMS, I saw numerous comments by Jackie OTTs incredulous that they did not recognize Jackie's voice and chastising them when they asked "Who's Jackie Evancho?" as if she were a household name. They live in an alternate reality.
